How SEO Works in Telecom
- It's mostly the same as any other niche.
- There are several keyword variations you need to know.
- Niche-specific and localized links are especially powerful in telecom.
- Understanding local, national, and international SEO is extra important in telecom.
- If you're a global telecom provider, multilingual SEO content is a powerful tactic.
- The best telecom SEO strategies include a combination of B2B, local services, and ecommerce-style URLs.
About the examples
For each example, I review a telecom company's website and try to understand their current SEO strategies. I also design an SEO campaign for each company, covering the top 3 actions needed for better organic traffic.
The SEO campaigns are applicable to any telecom company, but can also be used an examples for B2B, SaaS, and ecommerce websites.

AVOXI Telecom SEO Example 1
Example: AVOXI
Company type: B2B SaaS [Telecom]
Region: Global
Website traffic: 16,000+
Indexed pages: 923

Technical SEO
Technical SEO issues include:
- 300+ links to broken pages
- Broken redirect chains
- Duplicate pages with no canonical
- HTML lang attribute is invalid on 1,000+ pages
- Missing H1 tags
Contact me for the complete list with suggested fixes.
SEO content and keywords
AVOXI has a strong base of SEO content that includes bottom-funnel content like roundups, price guides, and landing pages for each of their product types and areas served. Most of this content is from a few years ago and would benefit from updates.
AVOXI has recently published high-quality video content on its social media accounts. Its leaders frequently appear on podcasts and travel abroad to meet clients in Asia and Europe.
How to improve AVOXI's telecom SEO strategy
1. Technical fixes + add telecom keywords
There are too many technical issues to ignore on this site, so fixing the broken page links and redirect chains comes first. At the same time, I would like to adjust the keyword targets on some of the new blogs (VoIP service and SIP Trunking examples are included in the video).
2. Global Content Sprint
Launch a 200 page experiment where we translate 40-50 pages into 4-5 languages and publish them across the website. Target languages include Malay, Mandarin, and German.
3. Landing page project
We'll create landing pages for products / services where you currently have gaps. More importantly, updates to your existing landing pages will have a huge impact (you have hundreds of them).
4. Telecom link building
AVOXI could enter into Google's Knowledge Panel for "CPaaS companies" with two simple actions. First, update your landing pages to include the terms included in the video. Then, launch two press releases with the PR website I mentioned in the video -- these press releases must contain contextual keywords like CPaaS and telecom, and they must link back to your website. Also, update your profile in directory sites like G2 to include these terms.

PLIVO Telecom SEO Example 2
Example: Plivo
Company type: B2B SaaS [Telecom]
Region: Americas, Europe
Website traffic: 28,000+
Indexed pages: 1,683

Technical SEO
Technical SEO issues include:
- 600+ links to broken pages
- Broken redirect chains
- 600+ missing H1 tags
- Missing meta descriptions
- Some broken images
SEO content and keywords
Plivo does not have the most traffic on this list, and they don't have the same multinational advantage that AVOXI and Telnyx enjoy. Despite that, they are in the best position for rapid growth, as their content is built on a strong foundation of quality.
How to improve their telecom SEO strategy
1. Technical audit
Plivo has more technical issues than the other telecom companies we analyzed, so we need to address that first. Specifically, we need to fix the broken pages, broken links, and some strange onpage issues seen in the report.
2. Update content tactics
Add landing pages for keyword targets you are missing. Lengthen the glossary pages, add price guides and rate comparisons to your blog, and optimize the knowledge base for technical SEO.
3. Add advanced schema
I would do this for any company I work with, but it's high priority with Plivo. Companies like AVOXI and Telnyx are using basic schema while Plivo has none. Adding advanced schema quickly turns this weakness into a competitive advantage.

telnyx Telecom SEO Example 3
Example: Telnyx
Company type: B2B SaaS [Telecom]
Region: Global
Website traffic: 44,000+
Indexed pages: 3,354

Technical SEO
Technical SEO issues include:
- Internal links to broken pages
- Canonicals pointing to broken pages
- Broken redirect chains
- Missing H1 tags
- Missing image alt text
SEO content and keywords
Telnyx has solid traffic thanks to a large library of blogs and landing pages covering their many products and use-cases. However, most of this content ranks for top-funnel keywords, or keywords that lack buying intent from their target audience.
I would like to see more bottom-funnel content tactics and keyword targets. Including more price guides, competitor comparisons, and roundups in the blog schedule will boost conversion rates.
I'm also surprised to see no landing page strategy targeting your available phone numbers for sale by country or city they belong to.
How to improve Telnyx's telecom SEO strategy
1. Geotargeting (Landing Page Project)
Any SEO should be chomping at the bit to work with you. Why? Because you aren't using this strategy yet, and it's likely to work well for you. Set up landing pages for your phone number types, as well as country-level phon number pages. Target telecom keywords like "[country] + [toll free service]" and "[country] + [number type] + [for sale]".
2. Tweak blog content
I would like to see more bottom-funnel content tactics and keyword targets. Including more price guides, competitor comparisons, and roundups in the blog schedule will boost conversion rates.
3. Technical SEO audit
You have a long list of technical issues to work through, but nothing that's damaging you too bad. While cleaning up technical errors, I will apply advanced schema markup for telecom websites to your product pages.

Advanced Telecom SEO Checklist
The advanced tactics that I documented for myself and my marketing teams over years working in telecom.

Global + Multilingual SEO for Telecom
If any industry should be taking advantage of an "international" SEO strategy, it's telecom.
Let's discuss content strategies and tactics you can use for global SEO. You should prioritize your international SEO content the same way you would with any other new website:
- Start with your most important brand and product landing pages (products, features, use-cases, about us, terms of service, pricing, etc.)
- Next, focus on bottom-funnel content (competitor comparisons, price guides, case studies)
- Mix in top and mid-funnel content and link content together. Do not link to content in different languages.
Your First Global Content Sprint for Telecom
You know global SEO should work well for telecom companies... but there are so many steps, and the time requirement is daunting. Many experts get stuck here (including me, it's called paralysis by analysis). But we don't need to overcomplicate this... if the last few sentences resonated with you, consider using following this process to start:
- Choose your target country / language.
- Identify your top landing pages and blogs for translation (Batch 1).
- Create a subfolder in your URL structure for your target countries.
- Upload your translated SEO content into the appropriate subfolders.
- Track Batch 1 for 60-90 days.
- Having success? Scale this strategy by adding more pages to each subfolder, or by adding a new country-level subfolders.
- Don't forget to updated your page on some routine. And no matter how good batch 1 is, I always recommend a round of "quick win" updates after 3-6 months. Updates will be based on keyword data discovered in search console and user experience metrics.
- Focus on sincerity! The world is full of people who appreciate you making the effort to cross the language barrier, even if you make mistakes. This goes a long way in making an impression in foreign language markets, especially in Asia.
